Dear Families,
Unfortunately, we are still unable to hold Extra Tryouts for the 20-21 soccer season as previously hoped. The current social distancing restrictions prohibit the traditional type of tryout that aligns with the philosophies of AYSO. The Extra Program supports an open tryout ideology in which participants must tryout every year to be considered for team selection.
In June, however, the Area Director gave all Regions the ok to bypass tryouts this year and allow coaches the discretion to select players. This decision was made due to the closure of fields and social distancing guidelines. We were the only region that did have access to a field and it was decided that we would wait and see and make every effort to hold tryouts.
The uncertainty of a fall season is still prevalent, but to allow for Extra teams to be ready and participate if one does happen we are following suit with other Area Regions and allowing teams to be formed by the coaches.
In some instances, coaches will need to add players to their rosters. If you have a son or a daughter who would like to be considered for a team please contact me with the players' name/gender/age [email protected] and I will put you in touch with the coach. For first-year teams (U9) we are working on our options. Please contact me if you had a child who wanted to try out for a U9 team.
Thank you for your patience. The entire AYSO Board is preparing as best we can for a Fall season, with the understanding that it may not take place.
Take good care of yourself and your family. Jeanna

COVID 19 CRITICAL INFORMATION:
All participants must sign a covid waiver, have their temperature checked, and wear a mask during the check-in process.
Please download the covid waiver, the medical release form (or copy of your AYSO registration), and the player questionnaire and bring with you to the 1st tryout. We will be practicing distancing guidelines to the best of our ability during the tryouts.
** DOCUMENTS CAN BE ACCESSED UNDER THE TAB BELOW- "DOCUMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION."
Check this page prior to heading to a tryout to make sure there has been no cancellation. Due to Covid ramping up again in our area, cancellations may happen suddenly and without notification.
* Based on turnout at the first tryout and/or Covid a second tryout may not be necessary/possible. Please plan on attending the first tryout.
EXTRA PROGRAM
The EXTRA Program offers a more advanced level of competition for players who possess the appropriate skills, commitment and abilities. The program offers soccer development opportunities similar to club soccer but maintains the core AYSO philosophies – including a guarantee that they will play at least half of every game. Players are selected through a competitive tryout process.
TRYOUTS
See below for Tryout dates and times for Fall 2020 season. Players must tryout each year.
Players should attend both tryouts but must attend one to be considered for a team.
** Players must complete the Medical Release Form and Player Questionnaire and bring to the first tryout they attend.
COST
EXTRA Players pay the normal fall registration fee, plus additional fees for custom uniforms and specialized training.
There may also be fees for any optional tournaments in which the team participates
COMMITMENT
Players selected to the EXTRA Program will commit to their teams as their priority non-school activity. It is expected that every player attends each practice and game at the agreed upon times. In order to satisfy the commitment required by the EXTRA Program, players may not be enrolled and participate in other non-AYSO or Club soccer programs during the EXTRA Program season.
SCHEDULE
EXTRA teams will not play other Region 56 teams during the Fall season or participate in All Stars.
There will be some travel involved, but the games are generally in Orange County.
Games are usually on weekends and there may be games on Sundays.
Season starts at the same time as the Region’s Fall season and usually ends a week after the end of the regular season.
Many teams also participate in tournaments before and after the season.
