Are You Interested In An Opportunity To Play A Higher Level Of AYSO Soccer?

What is AYSO “EXTRA”?
The AYSO “EXTRA” Program is a select program under the AYSO Flex umbrella which we anticipate will be implemented by AYSO Section 11 (Southern California) that is a level above traditional recreational soccer programs. The objective of the AYSO “EXTRA” program is to provide top players within each region a more competitive playing experience than traditionally offered through the recreational primary program alone. Region 56 Extra Teams play other Extra Teams outside of Region 56.

AYSO “EXTRA”, teams are anticipated to be formed in March through a tryout process that is anticipated to run during February/March. Players should be informed of teams by the end of March. The AYSO “EXTRA” program is played during the same time frame as the fall recreational AYSO program (e.g. August thru December). Games are usually played on Saturdays but Sunday and weeknight games are scheduled too. Team formation may be considered for girls and boys in the 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16 and Under age brackets.

How is AYSO “EXTRA” Different from Club Soccer?
AYSO “EXTRA” is an AYSO program. Thus, everyone plays means that every player will play a minimum of one-half the game. Club soccer teams often do not offer any playing time guarantee.

The estimated cost of the AYSO “EXTRA” program is slightly more than recreational the Primary soccer season. Club soccer costs between $1,500 - $2,000, depending upon the club and the number of tournaments that the team enters. *This fee may vary as actual costs are determined, however at this time we believe the Extra costs will likely be $350 which includes Region 56 Registration fees, National Fee, Extra Fee and Extra Uniform. Tournaments are an additional cost and are encouraged.

How Can I Participate on an AYSO “EXTRA” Team?
Selection onto an AYSO “EXTRA” team is through a tryout process that is open to everyone registered as a player with AYSO. The tryout process will evaluate players on the basis of their complete skill set, including but not limited to defending, attacking, speed, ball control, game knowledge, attitude, and effort exhibited through drills and small-sided scrimmages.

Extra Team Player Tryout Guidelines

Each EXTRA team must have a minimum of 2 tryout dates.

Each player should bring a water, a ball and wear shin guards. Please do not wear soccer attire from All Star or Extra Programs. Earings may not be worn during tryouts.

All players must be signed in at the sign-in table which is located near the AYSO bins at BC.

To tryout, players must Register for Extra, turn in their 2019 Fall Extra Program Registration Form and turn in their Player Interview/Parent & Player Agreement to the check in table at Extra Tryouts. (This means players will have a paper copy of their Registration Form and a paper copy of their Player Interview/Player & Parent Agreement Form to give to the Registration Table at the first tryout that they attend.) When players are signed in for their first tryout, they should be prepared to give a contact number, email, preferred position, dominate foot and if they or a family member is a certified referee who is willing to referee Extra games.

The initial online Extra registration will not include any fees. Fees will not be due until teams are selected, but registration must be complete prior to tryouts. (see below for directions) 2019 Fall Extra Program Registration is OPENED!

To Register for a tryout program (Extra), please log into your account through our website,
www.ayso56.org.  Please make sure to log into your original account (do not create a new account). If you have any problems with your login or password.

Once logged in, look next to the player name for a box that says Programs Available, click on the box and look for the correct program.  The program will take you through several screens during the registration process. At the end, there will be a Check Out with $0. There is no fee to sign up for the initial try out, but you much click through the check out process. You will receive a confirmation at the end.

Once tryouts are complete each player will receive an email indicating if they have made the team or not. For players that have made the team, they will receive an email asking them to accept or decline the position. If accepted, you would then click through the screens to complete registration and payment.

If you log in to your account and have not yet accepted the position you will see a red box that says Accept or Decline this position. If you click accept, you can then click through and complete registration.

It is recommended that players attend both tryouts but it is not mandatory. During tryouts, parents who stay and watch need to stay near the sign in table. Please follow Brethren Christian parking rules as stated on the AYSO Region 56 homepage.

Players may not play up or down.
Players must tryout in their age division.
Players may tryout and play in an age division above their age division if their age division is not offered.
